Workshops Call for Contributions

The European Dependable Computing Conference (EDCC) is a unique forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss their latest research results on theory, techniques, systems, and tools for the design, validation, operation and evaluation of dependable and secure computing systems.

Traditionally one-day workshops precede the main conference. The purpose of the workshops is to provide a forum for exchanging opinions, presenting novel ideas, and discussing preliminary results in an interactive atmosphere. Five workshops will be organized with this edition of EDCC. These workshops are:

6th International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for RAILwayS (AI4RAILS)

Description

The impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the industry has been so disruptive that it has given rise to a new wave of research and applications. Modern and future railways represent one of the fields in which AI is expected to have a significant impact in a medium to long-term perspective. Despite this opening for unprecedented scenarios in railway systems, it also raises concerns regarding system dependability and new threats associated with a high level of autonomy. In such a context, the AI4RAILS workshop series started in 2020, stemming from the Shift2Rail project RAILS (Roadmaps for the AI integration in the raiL Sector), to provide annually a forum for researchers, practitioners, and business leaders to discuss and share new perspectives, ideas, technologies, and solutions for effective and dependable integration of AI techniques in rail-based transportation systems. The current edition is supported by the Europe's Rail project Academics4Rail.

9th workshop on Critical Automotive applications: Robustness & Safety (CARS)

Description

The increasing complexity of automotive applications, the challenges posed by autonomous vehicles, the need to master production costs using off-the-shelf components, the coexistence of critical and non-critical applications, and the emergence of new architectural paradigms may have a strong effect on dependability of automotive embedded systems. This situation requires design and validation methods, but also tools to improve automotive systems robustness and their safety and security properties. The CARS workshop is a forum focusing on architecture, methods and development techniques for safety-related automotive embedded systems and applications. CARS aims at promoting and fostering discussion on novel ideas and techniques, possibly controversial approaches, a place where researchers and developers can share both real problems and innovative solutions. The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in the construction of critical automotive applications and systems.

1st International Workshop on Dependable and Secure Web3, Blockchain and Smart Contracts (DepWeb3)

Description

The Dependable and Secure Web3, Blockchain and Smart Contracts Workshop (DepWeb3) is motivated by the transformative impact of blockchain technology, also known as Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), and Web 3 on global economy. Blockchain is crucial for digital transition, with an estimated 10% of global GDP stored in blockchains by 2027 and an additional $3 trillion in trade by 2030. This workshop aims to explore Web3/Blockchain fundamentals, including the dependability and security of such infrastructures, cross-chain interoperability, smart contracts, and various use cases including finance, Internet of Things, supply chain management, and public sector applications. The workshop will foster academic and industry discussions on these topics, enhancing transparency, security, and trust. With active participation from the blockchain community and ongoing European initiatives, this workshop will significantly contribute to the EDCC community.

5th International Workshop on Safe Autonomous Systems (SafeAutonomy)

Description

The Safe Autonomy workshop explores concepts, techniques and technology related to the continuous safety assurance of autonomous systems (AS). Autonomous systems include a wide range of systems such as autonomous road vehicles, autonomous off-road machinery for agriculture or mining, autonomous robot dogs, autonomous drones, autonomous ships and many more. Technology that drives these AS and their capabilities is making significant progress, but safety assurance is lagging and limits innovation of technological advances. The assurance challenge increases when AS take advantage of Machine Learning and when assuring AS in the context of systems of systems where emergent behaviours and dynamic composition must be considered. SafeAutonomy invites experts, researchers, and practitioners for presentations and in-depth discussions about assuring autonomy, its relevance for specific use cases, its relation to existing regulatory frameworks and standardization activities, and solutions from systems and software engineering.

1st workshop on U-SPACE Dependability, Security, and Resilience for Future Airspace Safety (U-SPACE)

Description

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become increasingly important in civil airspace, particularly with their growing use in urban environments. To ensure their safe and efficient operation, especially in very low-level (VLL) airspace, Europe is developing U-space services. U-space refers to a suite of highly digitalized and automated services, integrated either on-board UAVs or within ground control systems. These services facilitate the safe and efficient management of large numbers of UAVs in urban areas. U-space can be viewed as a cyber-physical system, where dependability, security, safety, and resilience are of paramount importance. The U-SPACE workshop provides a dedicated platform for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the key challenges, latest ideas, and advancements in theory, experimentation, techniques, systems, and tools. The workshop aims to help with enhancing the design, implementation, validation, and evaluation of U-SPACE services, contributing to the safe integration of UAVs into European airspace.
