Fast Abstracts

Novelty: Extended Fast Abstracts submission!

EDCC is now opening the submission of Extended Fast Abstracts (up to 4 pages) until February 13th. It follows the same guidelines and procedures outlined for Fast Abstracts but with an increased page limit. Do not miss this opportunity to share your ideas and ongoing work with the EDCC community!

What we are looking for?

Fast Abstracts and Extended Fast Abstracts are lightly-reviewed 2-page and 4-page manuscripts, respectively, describing unpublished, in-progress, novel work, opinions or ideas that address any issue relevant to EDCC topics. Thus, (Extended) Fast Abstracts are a good opportunity for authors to share preliminary results, speculate on new directions to open problems or to present challenging or controversial issues.

Submission deadline for (Extended) Fast Abstracts is purposedly set after the Notification deadline of the main track of the conference and workshops. This allows resubmitting a rejected paper as a (Extended) Fast Abstract, to present it in a way other than a full research paper, which may better suit your work.

More in detail, contributions for (extended) fast abstract can fall in one of the following categories:

  • Report on current work that may or may not be complete;
  • Introduce new ideas to the community;
  • State positions on controversial issues or open problems;
  • Share lessons learnt from real-word dependability engineering;
  • Debunk or question results from other papers based on contra-indications.

Topics of Interest

Topics are the same of those of the main EDCC research track, and include, but are not limited to:

  • Hardware and software architecture of dependable systems;
  • Dependability and security modelling, evaluation, benchmarking, and tools;
  • Safety-critical systems design and analysis;
  • Artificial Intelligence for dependability and security;
  • Fault-tolerant networks, protocols and systems;
  • Time-sensitive networks and ultra-reliable low-latency communication;
  • Mixed-criticality systems design and evaluation;
  • Testing and validation methods;
  • Dependability and security of:
    • Artificial Intelligence systems;
    • Cyber-physical systems, e.g. smart grids, intelligent vehicles, (Industrial) Internet of Things;
    • Cloud, fog, and edge computing systems;
    • Data analytics application;
    • Databases and distributed ledgers (including blockchains);
  • Data protection and data privacy.

Submission Guidelines and Review Process

(Extended) Fast Abstracts will be lightly screened, to seek for:

  1. Relevance to the EDCC Community
  2. Quality
  3. Clarity of the Written Presentation

Authors are requested to send their submission by the deadline. We are willing to accept as many (Extended) Fast Abstracts as possible, provided that there is enough time for presenting papers at the conference.

By submitting a (Extended) Fast Abstract, you are committing yourself or one of your colleagues to present it at the conference.

Fast Abstracts and Extended Fast Abstracts must be written in English and must be limited to 2 and 4 pages, respectively, (following the IEEE conference proceedings A4 template in two-column camera-ready format, ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates).

Submissions must be emailed directly to the fast abstracts chair, Geert Deconinck (Geert.Deconinck@kuleuven.be). Please phrase the subject as “[EDCC-FA] Submission of paper

Presentation at the Conference

All (Extended) Fast abstracts will be presented in a dedicated session and after which there is time to discuss details at a poster during coffee-breaks.

(Extended) Fast abstract authors should make a poster of their papers to be presented during the conference. Instructions to Posters' submission are available here.

Publication and Post-Conference

Accepted papers will be included in the conference companion proceedings managed by the Conference Publishing Services (CPS) and submitted to Xplore and the CSDL. Instructions regarding the procedure will be sent to authors of accepted papers in due time.
